No Vacancy

No Vacancy: sleeping in America is a body of work that takes a closer look at the accommodations we make our home when on the road, away from home. Whether for a single night or a longer stay, I photograph these places I temporarily call home while driving through the USA. The motel evokes a wide imagery, mostly thanks to the American movies. It’s both an anonymous and familiar place for all of us, and always an intriguing subject. Through this project, I try to draw the viewer into an intimate atmosphere with an almost recognizable or familiar feel. At the same time, a feeling of unknown, uncharted territory remains and brings a sense of trepidation. The same you get when you open the door to your room and discover your new ephemeral home for the first time.
