I don't know about you but for me, the past few year have been amazing. My personal and professional lives are blooming. I got married, what started out as a personal photography project («Faces of Geneva») turned into a museum exhibition, my first photography book was made available.
By the looks of it, 2013 promises to be an epic year! For starters, «Faces of Geneva» will be displayed at the United Nations in Geneva So for this first post of 2013 please allow me to wish you a wonderful, healthy and creative new year! I hope you'll get everything your heart desires.
Speaking of what your heart desires, let's start off the year in an inspired way. I recently came across this video narrated by Alan Watts. I'm not going to pretend I knew who he was. I didn't. But I did my research and it turns out he was one inspiring dude. He was a follower and populariser of the zen philosophy.
To learn more about him, just check his dedicated Wikipedia page.
[youtube id="siu6JYqOZ0g" width="620" height="349"] His words struck me on so many different levels. I know money can't buy happiness but, of course, it helps. It also helps spoil things and people. Alan Watts says to forget the money. I find that to be a bit drastic but let's forget excessive money.
Better to have a short life that is full of what you like doing than a long life spent in a miserable way.
What we are doing is we are bringing up children and educating them to live the same sort of lives we are living... in order that they may justify themselves and find satisfaction in life by bringing up their children to bring up their children to do the same things. So it's all retch and no vomit — it never gets there.
I think I can say I am actually doing what I want to do most. It may not be easy every day, there is a crisis going on, clients have little to no budget for photography and nowadays everyone is a photographer. But that's not going to stop me. Photography is in me and I will fight!
How about you?
What do you desire?
