Running Along the Five

The section of the L.A. river running along Interstate Five flows over a natural riverbed making for a stark contrast between the concrete river banks and a partially restored habitat of plants and wildlife. Every year, after the seasonal winter rains in Los Angeles causing the river’s level to rise dramatically, spring leaves us with an ephemeral collection of various textiles and urban detritus trapped in the vegetation and riverbed. This strange ecosystem amplifies the sculptural qualities of the river and its environment. Running Along the Five is photographed on film using large and medium format cameras and processed in the river’s water.
