This is a body of work that takes a closer look at the accommodation we make our home when on the road, away from home. Whether for a single night or a longer stay, I photograph these places I temporarily call home while driving through the USA.
I have a particular interest in the great american icon that is the motel, how it once shaped the way Americans traveled across America and what remains of it now. In every photograph, I try to draw the viewer into an intimate atmosphere with an almost recognizable or familiar feel. At the same time, a feeling of unknown, uncharted territory remains and brings a sense of trepidation. The same you get when you open the door to your room and discover your new ephemeral home for the first time.
