No Music No Life: WAR
Hey there! It’s been 10 days since my last post but things are a little crazy right now. I wrapped up my exhibit at Maison Tavel and I am in the process of setting up «Faces of Geneva» for an exhibit at the United Nations here in Geneva. Despite all that, I still found time to shoot the first photo of my new series.
You might remember, on February 5th, I posted a blog titled «I WANT YOU» and was very mysterious about what it was all about. Well now that I’ve taken the first photo, I can tell more about it.
This new series is titled NO MUSIC NO LIFE and it’s all about people’s favorite songs. I’ve had a tremendous response to my post and I can’t wait to get cracking and shooting more of these.
Here is the idea: ask a person what is their favorite song and have them pose for a photo capturing the song. And for each photo, I will shoot a behind the scenes with the chosen track.
I photographed my first subject yesterday. Her name is Mazala and she chose «WAR» by Bob Marley.
Before I show you the final result, here is a lighting diagram and a behind the scenes video for the shoot.
As you’ll see in the video, I had originally setup a 50” Wescott Apollo as a side light but, in the end, the setting sun was providing just the amount and quality of light I was going for.
So I ended up using a very simple 2-light setup:
> an Elinchrom Ranger Quadra in a 44cm gridded beauty dish
> an SB-900 just to highlight the helmet a bit.
You’ll also notice I had a DIY smoke machine. Some flour and a talented blower!
Anyway, enough babbling, here is the video.
And now, as promised, the final image.
I hope you enjoyed the video and photo and would love to hear your thoughts.
