INSPIRATION: 12 great blogs and podcasts

12 blogs and podcasts to help your photography

Hi all! I setup this list of resources for you to check over the weekend and the coming week as I will be cruising through Tuscany with Anka and I don’t think I will be able to post.

The goal of this post is to provide you with a short but resourceful list to help your photography. The internet can be an amazing place for someone learning photography but it can also be overwhelming.

So here are the blogs and podcasts I can recommend.

Podcasts:

  1. This Week in Photo (TWIP)http://www.thisweekinphoto.com
A round table of hosts and guest who talk about all things photography. They cover news, events, gear, tips, etc.
  2. Photo Focus http://www.photofocus.com
Three times a month (the 5th, 15th and 25th) Scott Bourne hosts a Q&A podcast and generally has a guest host with him on the show. The questions are often very simple ones but sometimes you get more in-depth questions and answers.
  3. DTown TV — http://kelbytv.com/dtowntv
Originally hosted by Scott Kelby and Matt Kloskowsky, DTown TV is a video podcast about tips and gear for digital photography. I would say, very much like Photo Focus, it is geared towards beginners to intermediate photographers but every now and then there is something interesting to pick up for more advanced users.
  4. The Grid — http://kelbytv.com/thegrid
Scott Kelby and Matt Kloskowsky’s new podcast. Every week they have a guest and the show is live. This show is oriented more on the artistic and business side of photography and less on the gear, etc.
  5. Learning Digital Photographyhttp://www.canonblogger.com/the-podcast
Jason Anderson’s podcast really targets beginners in my opinion but he has some interesting information in there with some great guests, reviews, tips, contests, etc.
  6. Photoshop User TV http://www.photoshopusertv.com
This show is not as much about photography as it is about Photoshop. But post-processing is now part of what we do and some of the tips you get from this show are very interesting. It’s also always nice to get a refresher on some keyboard shortcuts, functions, etc.

Blogs:

  1. Digital Photography School — http://www.digital-photography-school.com
Darren Rowse provides us with a website with simple tips to help digital camera owners get the most out of their cameras. You will also find great resources, inspiration, assignments. This is a very good and complete website.
  2. Strobist — http://www.strobist.com
David Hobby is the father of the strobist movement. It’s all about small flash and taking it off the camera. If you are at all interested in lighting, this is a must!
  3. Larry’s Cheap Shots — http://larryscheapshots.com
Larry is a DIY type of guy. So when he finds an expensive photography accessory or product he likes, he finds a way to make it himself and cut the price significantly.
  4. Daily Dose of Imagery http://wvs.topleftpixel.com
This Toronto photographer often uploads city and street shots from his home town. Some of the pictures are really nice and it’s a great source of inspiration.
  5. Epic Edits — http://blog.epicedits.com
Brian Auer has created a community website full of many resources and inspiration. Make sure to check out the «Photo Dump» where he regularly selects his favorite photos from the Epic Edits Flickr group. Great inspiration!
  6. Josh Fassbind Photographyhttp://blog.joshfassbind.com
Last, but not least, a shameless self-promotion. If you are reading this, you might be a regular or maybe you stumbled upon my blog searching for something. In any case, I try to cover all aspects of photography here and plan to share more as time goes by. So make sure to add my site to your RSS feed or to your bookmarks.

If you feel I have forgotten some important sites, feel free to add them in the comments and I will then add them to the lists.

Have a wonderful weekend and make next week a great one!

Cheers!
